At the “T-shaped” intersection of golden coastline and the Yangtze River Delta in East China, Putuo District which is backed by the vast economic hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta is a main maritime gateway and an important channel connecting the east coast of China and the Yangtze River Basin with the world. The total area of the Putuo District is 6,728 square kilometers, of which the sea area is 6,269 square kilometers, and the land area is 459 square kilometers. There are 455 islands of different sizes including 32 islands inhabited by people. Its total population is 380,000.
In recent years, as a series of national strategies such as the National Zhoushan Archipelago New District, China (zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the River-Ocean Combined Transportation Center, and the International Agricultural Product Trading Center have been implemented in Putuo. It has been given the lead in the development of Zhoushan and has been given more chances to try firstly in industrial development. At present and for a period of time in the future, Putuo will focus on the "Free Trade Pioneering Area, Reception Room of Seaside Garden," and fully construct a "Opening up, Vigorous" happy Putuo District.
